Sludge from municipal wastewater treatment is a major global issue. Agricutural application is more and more hindered by tight limits for heavy metals, persistent organic compounds or even pathogenic germs. Common sludge incineration goes along with high costs for heating, drying and combustion. The StR-Process is a recently developped approach combining different well established technologies. Thus, up to 100 kWh electric power can be generated per ton of wet sludge at 20% DM.
